Get the Most Out of Your Lessons
Getting the most out of your lessons requires that you understand what your goals are and how it is that you want to achieve those goals. You want a regular weekly lesson program, a qualified teaching professional and a professional learning environment. Most importantly, learning how to play an instrument requires a whole lot more work at home that just your 30-60 minutes a week here at Opus Music. Many are dedicated to music but few are dedicated to hard work!

  • Daily practicing (even if it is just the 5 minutes you can squeeze in) makes all the difference in the world. Particularly for those who just recently started learning. Creating this daily habit is of the utmost importance. For most of us, we’re just doing this for our own enjoyment and enrichment. Don’t make daily practice a stressful event. Rather take things very slowly at a manageable pace. Once you are relaxed and enjoying yourself, put your faith in the process and just have fun!

  • Regular lessons makes sure that you don’t pick up bad habits over the week. It also keeps you on track and on task. If you can’t make a lesson at your regularly scheduled time, try to make an appointment during the week. Not having practiced that week is NO excuse for missing the lesson. In fact if you’ve been derailed from practicing due to a difficult week, having a refresher lesson is precisely what you need to get you back on track and motivated again.

  • A Professional Learning Environment gives you comfortable lesson studios, a front desk that can answer your questions and handle scheduling 6 days a week and gives you programs to enhance your learning experience (recitals, theory programs, jury exams, etc).

  • Qualified Teaching Professionals assure you that you learn it right the first time. Great players don’t equate great teachers and that guy in the garage band trying to get signed is definitely not putting your progress high up on his list of priorities. A good teacher will also help you progress at a predictable and deliberate pace. Taking lessons somewhere else and taking 6 months to learn what you can learn here in 2 months is a far better investment of your time and money.
