Opus Music of South Bay has been offering private and group music lessons in idyllic Old Torrance since June of 2003. From our humble beginnings, we have been committed to "Fostering the Love of Music." That is, we believe that whether your goal is to be a hobbyist, a child prodigy, a world famous concert performer, or perhaps you are a parent who wants to expose their children to music, the one thing that will define success for us is that we help you develop a life long love affair with music. Now our scope of business has grown from having just lessons to hosting recitals, forming ensembles, offering rentals, instrument repairs and sales!
LESSONS
We started out as a music academy and music education will always be the core of our organization. All of our instructors are highly qualified industry professionals who themselves love music with a passion. It is our desire to impart this joy of a life filled with music with you. We do this in a nurturing environment, in comfortable well-kept facilities and in a community of music lovers. We also can boast that we are the only music academy for miles around that uniquely offers, Ukulele Lessons, Oboe Lessons and String Bass (or Double Bass) Lessons.
OPUS MUSIC STORE
Beginning in 2009, Opus Music is now the Southern California Showroom to elite lines of instruments by Sean Brennan (formerly of Brennan's Violin Shop), Kenny G Saxophones, Ronnie Lawes Saxophones and the full line of Rheuben Allen instruments. Although smaller music retailers beat out big box stores in service and atmosphere, they typically do not compete in terms of price point. However, through these dealer relationships Opus Music carries instruments and accessories that far exceed our competition in quality, playability and durability. Moreover, our prices beat any competing lines by an unbeatable margin; often times less than half the price! We've accomplished this by forming strategic alliances with manufacturer, designers and instrument builders to bring you the finest instruments for prices that you quite frankly cannot pass up!
RECITALS
We celebrate our accomplishments together by holding recitals in the Spring and in the Winter. Our teachers also arrange for occasional studio showcases (recitals with just the students of one teacher).
ENSEMBLES
Opus Music is also always looking to form ensembles within our program as well as with young (and young at heart) musicians from around the community. Music played in ensembles is a tremendously beatiful thing. The outcome is almost always much greater than the sum of its parts. The very definition of synergy! We hope that we will have several ensembles in various disciplines in the years to come.
REPAIRS*
BAND/WOODWINDS/BRASS:
All of our band/woodwind/brass instrument repairs are handled by Tony Lopez (formerly of Castle Music). Unlike many music stores that offer repairs, Opus Music has our repair facilities in-house. That means we do not send out our instruments 30 miles away and charge you a premium for handling and transport in addition to the repair. All of our violin, viola, cello and string bass repairs are done by renowned luthier and violin technician Sean Brennan.
STRINGS:
*Repairs are often much more complicated or often simpler than they appear to the layman. Therefore, quotes or estimated timelines for completion is very difficult to give and our staff is discouraged from guessing so as not to inconvenience our repair clients. With that said, most repairs can be done in about a week. Once our technician has evaluated the instrument, a call back for estimates prior to initiating work can be requested.
**Our repair technicians are on the premisis on an "as needed" basis. Repairs can not be guaranteed to be done while you wait, nor are they available on any unannounced drop-in times. If you need to speak directly to either Mr. Lopez or Mr. Brennan, our staff will be happy to leave a note for them to contact you at their convenience.
